Friends of the Library Go Green

Since 2008, the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library have been helping Vineyard residents do their part in keeping our Earth a little greener by offering reusable, recyclable polypropylene bags, to help reduce the use of plastic bags by library patrons.

The sturdy eco-friendly bags can be used to carry books and DVDs home from the library, or may be used for groceries and other personal items. The $2 per bag charge helps to fund library children's programs and other initiatives supported by the Friends. This year's bags are Kelly Green, and also make great stocking stuffers and can be used as gift wrap for the holidays!

Friends meetings are always on the 1st Saturday of the month at 10:30 am in the library. Meetings are open to all, so come and learn what you can do to support and help.

Friends Mini Book Sale FREE Day December 16th

Each month the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library hold "mini" book sales to raise funds for children's programs and other initiatives. This month, instead of offering books for sale, the Friends will be liquidating excess stock from their monthly book sales for the bargain price of free!

The free book day will be Saturday, December 16th, from 10am to 2pm. Free books for children, adults and teens will be given away. The Friends will also be selling their reusable library tote bags for $2 each, which can be used to bring your free books home and also make great stocking stuffers and can be used as gift wrap.

Red Stocking Fund Book and Toy Drive

The Vineyard Haven Public Library is collecting books and toys for The Red Stocking Fund. Please bring your donations of new, unwrapped gift items for ages 0-14 to the Vineyard Haven Public Library through December 11th.

For more information, see the Red Stocking Fund display in the library display case. Since 1938, the Red Stocking fund has been distributing gifts to children from needy families. The Red Stocking Fund is expected to reach 300 children and their families this holiday season.
