Art in the Stacks: Art Quilts from Haiti

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library and PeaceQuilts are pleased to present an exhibit of Art Quilts from Haiti. The exhibit will be on display on the lower level of the library, during regular library hours throughout the month of May, 2019.

Join us on Thursday, May 30th at 7 pm, for a talk by Jeanne Staples, who will tell us more about the quilts and the PeaceQuilts cooperatives that produce these unique works of art.

PeaceQuilts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, establishing and supporting independent, self-managed sewing cooperatives in Haiti. The women produce one-of-a-kind art quilts, as well as a collection of affordable products, reflecting Haiti's rich artistic and cultural heritage. PeaceQuilts provides an opportunity for Haitian women to build their own businesses and earn a living wage. For more information visit https://haitipeacequilts.org/

The Vineyard Haven Public Library's "Art in the Stacks" space features rotating monthly exhibits and is managed by the Friends of the Library. The library also has a permanent collection of artworks that are displayed throughout the year, including 12 paintings by Vineyard artist Captain John Ivory. Artists interested in showing their work may contact the library at (508) 696-4210.
