Another Summer of Drawing with Elizabeth Whelan!

Beginning Wednesday May 25th, join artist Elizabeth R. Whelan for a series of 19 free intermediate-level drawing classes. She will be focusing on technique, good 'starts' for drawings, and how to move beyond simple representation to bring personal concepts into your work. To demonstrate, throughout the summer Elizabeth will follow a single theme and show you 19 different conceptual interpretations.

Anyone can join, from anywhere. The classes are free and aimed at adults who are brushing up on their drawing skills (or just starting out), however, all are welcome.

Classes will meet via Zoom every Wednesday at 11 am from May 25th - September 28th, 2022, and will be recorded. See you there!   Register for the series

Learn about the benefits and joys of creating beautiful layered gardens designed for avian – and human! – habitat.

Presented by Master Gardener Joan Butler, an enthusiastic gardener and birder for over 30 years. Her gardens have been included on several garden tours and feature exciting plant combinations and dramatic horticultural specimens. Video Available for Phil Weinstein: Soul-Error Event

The May 4th event celebrating the publication of Philip Weinstein's new book "Soul-Error" was recorded, and can be viewed on the Vineyard Haven Library’s Vimeo platform, where you can also find recordings of many of Phil’s past seminar offerings: https://vimeo.com/706337438

This event was sponsored by the Vineyard Haven Public Library Building Fund, Inc. It’s been a great pleasure for our library to have hosted many events with Phil Weinstein over the past 10 years, and his classes helped the library build an audience for programs that has outgrown our small basement meeting room.

We’re grateful that we were able to bring people together on Zoom to continue these events during the past two years, but as we start to return to in-person events, we’re also returning to a meeting room that does not meet the needs of our community.

The Library Building Fund is a 501c3 nonprofit formed to raise the funds needed to build a new community meeting room that will adjoin the library garden. So far the capital campaign has raised more than 1 million dollars, bringing us more than halfway to meeting our goal.

If you are interested in finding out more you can visit the Capital Campaign website at www.vhlibrarybuildingfund.org, or call or visit the library to see our plans and learn how you can support this project and programming for all ages at the library.

We’d like to thank Phil Weinstein and Rose Styron for being our honorary co-chairs for the capital campaign, as well as our many volunteers who continue to help with this project.
