If you haven’t used the FREE Libby app yet to borrow digital titles from our library, join at 10:00 to learn how to Get Started with Libby. This virtual session will get you up to speed on everything you need to know to get started with Libby, including:

New & Improved: Commonwealth eBook Collections!

CLAMS Library cardholders now have access to more than 10,000 popular eBooks and audiobooks through the Axis360 service in the Commonwealth eBook Collection. Use the new Axis360 mobile app to check out and download audiobooks and eBooks to a variety of tablets and other devices (excluding e-ink Kindles).

Other resources in the Commonwealth eBook Collection include BiblioBoard Library, which provides books, articles, documents, audio, images and video from traditional publishers, self-published authors and libraries’ own content collections, and Proquest's EBL (eBook Library), which includes resources to help with academic research as well as personal interests, from cooking to gardening.

In addition, CLAMS continues to offer access to our Overdrive eBook and Audiobook collection, which offers a wide variety of popular eBooks and audiobooks in all genres that work with almost any device.

New: Commonwealth eBook Collections!

CLAMS is the first library network in the state to provide our library cardholders with access to the Commonwealth eBook Collections. These services are brought to you by the Massachusetts Library System in partnership with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and your local library, funded in part by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. The collection includes eBooks and other media from our partners, BiblioLabs, Proquest EBL, and Baker & Taylor.

Baker & Taylor's Axis 360  provides popular eBooks and audiobooks and full-color children's books. Books may be downloaded to a variety of tablets and other devices (excluding e-ink Kindles).

BiblioBoard Library includes all types digital content: books, articles, documents, audio, images and video.The content comes from traditional publishers, self-published authors and libraries’ own content collections.

Proquest's EBL (eBook Library) includes resources to help with academic research as well as personal interests, from cooking to gardening.

In addition, CLAMS will continue to offer access to our popular Overdrive eBook and Audiobook collection, which offers a wide variety of eBooks and audiobooks in all genres that work with almost any device. Vineyard Haven Library cardholders also have unlimited access to Tumblebooks eBooks for children.

Harry Potter Series Now Available as Library eBooks and Downloadable Audiobooks

J.K. Rowling's phenomenally popular Harry Potter Series is now available through the CLAMS "Overdrive" download service. All 7 books are now available as eBooks for the Nook, Kindle, and other eReaders, and in MP3 audiobook format.

OverDrive is a collection of downloadable digital media including audiobooks, ebooks, and music. To get started, browse the OverDrive Digital Catalog, then use your CLAMS card to check out an title to read or listen to on your home computer or portable device.

New to eBooks and downloadable audio? Drop by the library on Saturday mornings between 10am and noon for informal demonstration of the library's Overdrive service. Library staff will be present to answer your questions and show you how to get started, and the library's eReader devices including a Nook, Sony Reader, and Kindle will be available for hands on demonstration.

Accessible Books and Periodicals for Readers with Print Disabilities

In partnership with Bookshare and OverDrive, CLAMS is currently offering a one year free subscription (usually $75) to Bookshare for individuals with a print disability. The program is known as LEAP – Library eBook Accessibility Program.

Print disability or print-impairment or is a condition related to blindness, visual impairment, specific learning disability, and certain physical disabilities (such as tremors.) Individuals diagnosed with a print disability cannot access print in the standard way.

Bookshare (www.bookshare.org) is an online library of digital books (90, 000,) magazines, and newspaper for people with qualifying disabilities. It operates under an exception to the U.S. copyright law thus dramatically increasing the accessibility of books. Bookshare members download reading material in a compressed encrypted file. They then read the material using adaptive technology, typically software that displays the text of the book on screen and/or reads the book aloud (text-to-speech), or Braille access devices. (Qualifying US students can access the Bookshare catalog for free through the support of the U.S. Department of Education and OSEP.)

Overdrive App for Ebooks/Audio for iPad

We’re pleased to announce the release of OverDrive® Media Console™ for iPhone®/iPad® v2.2.

With this release, iPad users will now enjoy custom designed graphics whether they are reading an EPUB eBook, listening to an MP3 audiobook, or browsing the OverDrive Media Console Library.

Additionally, the app now supports landscape and portrait orientation, and a new calendar icon displays the number of days left until the title expires.

The system requirements haven’t changed. The free app can be installed on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch® devices running iOS (v4.0 or newer). Those with OverDrive Media Console already installed will be notified that an update is available.

Download Books and Music at the Library

The sleek black computer on the lower level of the library is a brand new service the library is offering -- the Overdrive Audio Download Station. The Friends of the Library were able to purchase the download station terminal and software using funds from their Annual Appeal, thanks to the generosity of donors in the community.

The library has been offering downloadable audiobooks for checkout since 2008, however previously patrons could only download audio files on their home computers. Using the new download station, patrons can checkout audiobooks and transfer them to a portable audio device at the library. Patrons who wish to try the new service and don't yet have their own player can also borrow an MP3 player from the library.

Good News for iPod Users!

Upgrade to OverDrive Media Console version 3.2 and most titles in our WMA Audiobook collection will instantly become compatible with your iPod and other Apple devices for users with Windows PCs. OverDrive Media Console version 3.2 is free!

Titles in MP3 format are compatible with MAC computers and most portable devices including iPods. See the 'Plays on' icons next to each title for compatibility information.

OverDrive is a new collection of downloadable digital media available through participating libraries in the CLAMS network, including Vineyard Haven.

To get started, browse the OverDrive Digital Catalog, then use your CLAMS card to check out an audiobook, ebook, or music title to download and play on your home PC or portable audio device. Selected titles can also be burned to CD.

Island Libraries Give Away MP3 Players!

The Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven Public Libraries are promoting a new audio book and music download service by giving away MP3 Players. Patrons of the 27 participating CLAMS libraries that use the digital download service during the month of March are automatically entered to win one of two Creative MuVo V100 MP3 players courtesy of OverDrive, our service provider.

The more titles you download and the more often you use the service, the greater your chance of winning. All you need is a valid CLAMS library card from a participating library, computer access and a broadband Internet connection.
