Storytime Mondays and Saturdays at 10:30 am!
Join us at the library for weekly story times on Mondays and Saturdays at 10:30am! Held outdoors in the courtyard weather permitting, or in the basement program space. No registration is necessary, contact Emily our Children's Librarian for more information! 

Storytime Scavenger Hunt at the Family Center, Fridays at 9:30 am!
Join Emily our Children's Librarian at the MV Family Center for an outdoor storytime scavenger hunt, weather permitting. The Family Center is across the street from the library at 35 Greenwood Avenue. No registration required. No program 10/21.

Kids Crafts Thursdays at 3:30 pm!
Join Jennifer for some spook crafts on Thursdays at 3:30pm. Materials are provided and registration is not required, but attendance will be limited to first arrivals, while supplies last.

Halloween Events This Weekend, 10/30 & 10/31

Online:  Halloween and the History of Witches with Grounded Goodwife
How did the benevolent image of a wise woman transform into the malevolent figure of the witch we know today?  When you think of a witch, it’s easy to conjure up an image of an old, ugly, hook-nosed woman, stirring up a steaming potion that is brewing away inside a cauldron. Of course her usual sidekick, the proverbial black cat, is probably not far away. Have you ever wondered, especially on Halloween, why witches are depicted as riding on brooms through the nighttime sky? You’re never going to look at sweeping the same way again...Sponsored by the Vineyard Haven and Chilmark libraries. 

Halloween Take & Makes
Glow Ghost bags for Kids and Teen Glow Ghost Bracelet bags will be available for pickup from 10 am to noon on Sunday October 31st, while supplies last.

Trick-or-Treat on Main Street
Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, Vineyard Haven on Sunday, October 31st from 2 pm to 5 pm! The Friends of the Library will also be giving out treats Curbside at the Library from 2 pm to 5 pm.

A vivacious teacher and a grounded herbalist, the mother/daughter duo of Ehris and Velya connects with audiences through their Green Witch Workshops, Herstory Unsanitized presentations, and books. Funny and frank, they share their respect for Mother Nature, enthusiasm for all things green, and belief that history (and life!) should never be boring.

Halloween, Sunday Hours, and Holiday Closings

Vineyard Haven Library will be open special evening hours for Halloween on Monday, October 31st. We will stay open until 8pm that evening so your family can take a break from trick-or-treating and enjoy cider and candy provided by the Friends of the Library.

Sunday, November 6th will be the first Sunday of the season that the library will be open. The library will be open from noon-4pm throughout the winter, except for a few holiday weekends.

For the sixth year, The Library will be hosting a series of crafting classes for adults and teens, offered monthly on Sunday afternoons throughout the winter. The classes are supported by the Friends of the Library and led by artist in residence Jennifer Langhammer. The classes are free of charge and materials are provided. This year’s Adult Craft series at the Vineyard Haven Library will begin Sunday November 13th at 1pm, with mini weaving.

The library will be closed for the Veterans Day holiday on Friday November 11th. The library will also close early at 1pm on Wednesday November 23, 2016, and remain closed on Thursday November 24th and Friday November 25th for Thanksgiving. The library will be open regular hours on Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

The library will be closed for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 12th. We will also be closed for the day on Friday, October 30th for computer upgrades and staff training.

Halloween Happenings!

This Sunday, October 27th, from 1pm to 3pm, the Library will hold a Halloween party for kids, with games, crafts, and treats (of course!) We will finish up with a costume parade through the library.

To allow safer trick-or-treating, several streets in Vineyard Haven will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 to 9 pm on October 31st, including portions of William Street, Franklin Street, and Spring Street. Center Street, Church Street and Colonial Lane will be closed off from Main Street. (Residents of closed streets will be allowed vehicular access).

The library is also open until 8pm on Halloween night, so stop in to show off your costume and pick up a treat!
