Wednesday June 30th at 6 pm, the Tisbury Water Resources Committee will host a community workshop introducing Tisbury’s Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) process.
This event will be held in-person at the Tisbury Emergency Services Building.Nitrogen is a primary pollutant affecting coastal ponds and wastewater is the largest source of nitrogen in the local watersheds. Lake Tashmoo and Lagoon Pond already have high levels of nitrogen and more is being added daily from septic systems. The CWMP is a key step toward implementation of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for nitrogen in Tisbury’s estuaries, which are determined by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
The Town is working with Environmental Partners, an architectural, engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, to produce the CWMP. The plan will look at current wastewater conditions and future wastewater needs and compare alternatives for reducing nitrogen loads in Lagoon Pond and Lake Tashmoo. The final product will be a draft 15-20 year plan that will be presented to the select board and then to the citizens of Tisbury for approval. This is the first of a number of workshops that will be held over the 3-4 year timeframe of the CWMP process. Participation by residents and stakeholders is critical for the development of a successful plan.
