Art in the Stacks: Tuscany Landscape Studies by Susan Johnson

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library are pleased to present an exhibit of landscape studies by painter Susan Johnson. The exhibit will be on display during regular library hours throughout the month of August. "Art in the Stacks" is an initiative of the Friends of the Library, to provide individual artists an opportunity to show their work, and for library patrons to enjoy art at the library throughout the year.

The artist, Susan Johnson, has recently returned from an intensive six-week study program for plein air landscape painting and art history with Boston University. This collection of landscape studies were produced during June and July. Oil Paint on board, all were painted directly on-site--plein air-- in the dramatic Tuscan hillsides, inspired by strong light, cypress, olive groves, and grape vineyards. Ms. Johnson holds a BFA and MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute, and will complete an MA in Art Education from Boston University in January 2012.
