Vineyard Haven Cutural District Organizational Meeting

Arts Martha's Vineyard, the Island's arts and culture collaborative, announces an organizational meeting to introduce plans to establish a Vineyard Haven Cultural District. The organizational meeting will be at the Vineyard Haven Library on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to Tisbury businesses and organizations as well as members of the public.

Establishing a Vineyard Haven Cultural District is an opportunity for our Island community to support and promote the local Creative Economy.

The Massachusetts legislature created the Cultural Districts Initiative in 2010 and is administered by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Since the Cultural Districts Initiative's launch in April 2011, there have been 14 cultural districts designated throughout the state.

There are clearly defined goals and valuable benefits to creating a cultural district on Martha's Vineyard including strengthening our sense of place while stimulating economic activity, improving visitors' experiences, and creating a higher quality of life.

By bringing our collective energy together, organizations and businesses that represent the Creative Economy are invited to participate to help design this wonderful tourism opportunity. Public input is important and required for success.

Please come and join colleagues and neighbors such as Bunch of Grapes, the MV Film Center, MV Times, as well as a number of galleries, organizations, and individuals on Thursday, March 7, at 5:30pm at the Vineyard Haven Library.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, March 6 to David Nathans at the Martha's Vineyard Museum: dnathans@mvmuseum.org or call 508-627-4441 x122.
