Author Talk: Journey to the Inner Light with author Terri Potts-Chattaway and composer Jay Chattaway


On Tuesday, August 27th at 6:00 PM, the Vineyard Haven Library will host local author Terri Potts-Chattaway and Star Trek composer Jay Chattaway as they discuss the creative process that guided his Emmy-award winning career, along with other themes from her newly published biography, Journey to the Inner Light: The Life and Musical Voyage of Jay Chattaway, Star Trek, Jazz, and Film Composer. The presentation will include behind-the-scenes footage from a Star Trek scoring session as well as a video clip from Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage where he conducted his most acclaimed composition, “The Orchestral Suite from the Inner Light” with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Journey to the Inner Light: The Life and Musical Voyage of Jay Chattaway, Star Trek, Jazz and Film Composer is the biography of twentieth century American composer Jay Chattaway. The book chronicles his rise from humble beginnings in southwestern Pennsylvania to become an accomplished and prolific musician. Journey to the Inner Light celebrates Jay’s successes while exploring the challenges he faced over five decades in the ever-changing music industry. The book is an exploration into the creative process as Jay attempts to answer the single most-asked question, “Where does the music come from?”

Terri Potts-Chattaway is a former television producer, as well as an author, speaker, and blogger. Her producer credits include working under the direction of Rick Berman and Ira Behr on the Star Trek series; Judd Apatow and Paul Feig on the series Freaks and Geeks; Judd Apatow on the series Undeclared and the pilot North Hollywood; Jeffrey Katzenberg and Joe Aguilar on the animated series Father of the Pride; and Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah on the pilots Women of a Certain Age and Life as We Know It. Terri headed the post production department of DreamWorks Television which included the management of five pilots, two series, one Movie of the Week and the Emmy-award winning, 20-hour miniseries, TAKEN under Executive Producer Stephen Spielberg. Terri also co-produced two Singing for Life concerts at Paramount Studios benefiting the Pediatric Aids Foundation and The Paulist Boy Choristers. Guests included Ed McMahon, Paul Williams, Vicki Lawrence, 98 Degrees, and The Paulist Boy Choristers.
