Art in the Stacks: Clara Kisko

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library are pleased to present an exhibit of acrylic landscape paintings by Canadian born artist and Edgartown resident Clara Kisko. The exhibit will be on display during regular library hours through the end of October. "Art in the Stacks" is an initiative of the Friends of the Library to provide individual artists an opportunity to show their work, and for library patrons to enjoy art at the library throughout the year.

Clara began painting when well into her fifties, beginning with small watercolor sketches to illustrate her travel journals. This interest was enhanced by watercolor classes taken at Featherstone Centre for the Arts with Carolyn Daniele. She is a newcomer to painting in acrylics and is captivated by the rich and vibrant color as well as the texture of this medium.

Both here on the Vineyard and in Toronto, Canada, Clara paints with groups of artist friends on Monday afternoons. The series of paintings on display were all painted in 2012 during these friendly, informal sessions. The abstract flower pieces were painted to contrast the whites and grays of a Toronto winter. The landscapes were inspired by New England scenes and were painted during the spring and summer months.
